The first thing to check is the tramission fluid: the level and the cleanliness. If low, check for leak, stop leak, then top up to reqd. level, if dirty change tx oil.

It sounds like you are having problems with the automatic clutch. That is if it is an automatic transmission. It sounds like you need to take it to the shop and have them rebuild the transmission. It could also be the flywheel or gears in it causing it to slip like that.

The good news is that it may just be low on transmission fluid. Check the transmission fluid level stick under the hood. If it's low then add fluid and see if that fixes it. The bad news is that you may just need a new transmission.

Well check the transmission fluid. You don't want there to be any leaks and you don't want it to be low in levels.

Try a transmission flush and if that doesn't work your gonna have to take it to a transmission shop and get it torn down to find out what exactly is broken.

The seals have failed in the transmission and have burned up the clutch packs. The transmissions are very poor in these vans and are prone to failure. The cost to repair an aerostar is more than the vehicle is worth, a lot more, so unless you really need this van it is time to retire it.

Make sure you put the right transmission fluid in it . Fords are known to make sure you use their fluids
