I think the history of cosmetology would be an interest subject. People have been obsessed with altering their appearance dyes and other chemicals for thousands of years, dating to the Egyptians and even earlier. I'd be interested to know why that is, and if we are hardwired to want to alter our appearance that way.

Write about how the industry has changed and developed over the past decade or 50 years. Styles have changed, technology has changed. A lot of makeup is "going green" and also not testing on animals as much. Write about reoccurring trends.

Well first i would go to a salon and start asking questions there. You can also go to the library and check out the some books. Your best results would be to talk to the owner or employees of a salon. You can also find useful information online about what you are researching.
