Changing your oil should not decrease your MPG. This should restore performance and increase life of your vehicle. If you have loss in MPG you should seek other options.

Well it could be possible. Typically you will get an increase in you mileage with an oil change. However if you add lower quality or thick viscosity then you could actually lose some fuel economy. Always follow the manufacturers recommend oil type and if you want good mileage use a quality "full" synthetic oil.

If the oil change is not done properly, for example, if too little oil is replaced, it can potentially cause a loss of gas mileage as well as other problems.

You can have a slight loss of gas mileage after an oil change two ways. Either the cars oil level was low prior to the oil change, causing less friction and better mileage, but wears out the engine. The other way is that the new oil is a heavier weight.
