Yes a convicted felon can indeed leave the United States. As long as you have your passport and are not on probation or parole then you can leave. But certain countries might not let you in based on your criminal record.

Canada will deny entrance to those with a DUI in the past five year, and perhaps even the past 10 years. Gun convictions even 40 years ago can trip you up on their border as well.

A drug posession charge can keep someone out of Canada.  add a comment

You can be "detained" for even attempting to cross the Canadian border if you are a convicted felon. Trust me I know.  add a comment

The only thing a felony stops you from is certian jobs...such as a cop and owning a gun. A felon can even be a doctor but you wont get your DEA licencse. .Most Musicians are felons and travel to evry countries, such as Godsmack & Bob Dylan & Martha Stewart

Most musicians are felons? What a crock of crap!  add a comment

The above statement hold no validity whatsoever. No only is the musician statement BS, by many Drs. have felony convictions and hold DEA licenses. And the US denied entry to Amy Winehouse based on her convictions.  add a comment

felons can not get passports while o parole or prob. and even after you must renew it if issued before conviction; you cant vote, own / or be around a gun,or run for office. Theres no way escaping it. im a felon for stealing cigarettes outof my neighbors car

While running for office or owning guns is true. Depending on state you might be able to vote. Colorado is one state where felons can vote even on probation, but not under incarceration or parole  add a comment

United States felons able to travel to and from other countries if they are currently not on parole or any other probabtionary period. Some countries however won't let certain kinds of criminals into their country, for example; if you convicted on a drug crime.

I would believe that U.S. felons are allowed to do any kind of travel they so desire. I don't really believe that there is much out there that they can't do. Which thinking about it is odd. I believe the only thing that they can't do is vote or carry guns.

Felons are allowed to vote in many states, a few while incarcerated. Sitting on a jury or firearms, no. Some information felonies should be misdemeanors, as long as there is no confinement, drugs or violence. Usually a conspiracy charge for knowing something, not committing the crime.Federal Guidelines need revamping.  add a comment

So voting and carrying guns and not being able to apply for a job without announcing your criminal record and being denied entry to dozens of countries around the world and never again having a right to reasonable privacy...thats your idea of "not much they cant do" ???  add a comment

It would be hypocritical otherwise. You have the caught and the uncaught. You would probably be surprised at the enormous amount of "upstanding" citizens who have committed a felony more than once. Just never caught. You want to see a holier than thou attitude-BINGO.  add a comment

They can vote now. That has been lifted. Under Federal Law they may own Blackpowder arms. Some states only shotguns and riles.  add a comment

They can do juries now. They can own firearms not handguns in many states.  add a comment

There is a way to get into Canada with a felony. Get a Washington Enhanced Driver's License (no background check) and go over on the ferry at Port Angeles into Victoria BC. It works.  add a comment
