Yes you can. Contact your local police department. There's training involved, but they can use your help (and will appreciate it).

Probably the best method for this is to volunteer for Perverted Justice, the group that works on Chris Hanson's "To Catch a Predator. " This group works with local police groups a lot to operate stings If you want to work directly with police you will be out of luck as they generally only use police officers for their operations.

Then I would call the police department and find out if you could be a part of their team. They should have some training that they can provide.
