Can I give garlic to dogs?

Would they get the same health benefits as people?

No. Garlic contains the same compound, thiosulphate, that is in onions, which is toxic for dogs. Don't give your dog any root vegetables, because they also contain this compound. If a dog does ingest something with thiosulphate, it destroys their red blood cells and can lead to heart failure.

You can make a garlic biscuit and it will deter them from getting fleas on their skin. I would first seek guidance from your vet before you do this. The one thing I know about garlic for dog's is the fact that they do repel the fleas from being on their bodies.
