A felony conviction will prevent you from joining the military. In fact there are several legal strikes on a persons record which will disallow them from joining the US Military. However you may join a number of organizaitons overseas such as the French Foreign Legion

The various branches of the military have different policies regarding a felony record. Juvenile felonies are looked at differently than crimes committed as an adult. Any record should be disclosed to the recruiter, even if it is sealed or expunged, and failure to report it is itself a felony. The nature of the specific felony is considered.

I believe that felons are allowed to join certain branches of the military. The Air Force does not allow felons, but as far as I know the Army accepts them.
