Can coyotes be red like a fox?

I saw an animal and I am sure it was a red coyote.

There is such and animal as a red coyote. Coyotes can be multiple colors. Some are black, some are whitle and others are a red color. A coyote is much larger than a fox. The face is larger, and the head is too. They run with a more distinct trot as well.

Not usually. Sometimes however they can have streaks of red fur or a darker color in their usually Grey coats. Most likely you saw a Red fox running in the grass. If you're still unsure you can call your local DNR and ask about the animals that are in your area.

Coyotes are grayish brown or yellowish gray on the upper parts of their body and white on their throat and belly. The forelegs and paws may be reddish brown.

Coyotes can come in many different colors and can also be stained by the local earth to an iron-red color just like that of a fox.
