I am on atenolol and retaining water.

Yes atenolol is know to cause abdominal water detention. Atenolol is a Bete blocker and can also cause dizziness. Do not mix with alcohol.

Yes. If you have a history of heart failure, you can increase the failure when on Atenolol. Also, swelling of ankles can be a sign of an allergic reaction.
