When I had water retention, my doctor had me elevate my legs above my heart. I also purchased white hose that are made to help alleviate water retention. Another thing is drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to help flush out the body. Also, plenty of rest was required.

Sit with your legs propped up as much as possible. It is also good for the rest of your body to be flat while you do this if possible. Drink plenty of water to help flush out your system. Eliminate salt from your diet completely. Each food with high water content.

Physicians recommend wrapping your legs in ace bandages, this will keep the swelling down. They can also give you water pills, but they work fast and they prevent you from leaving the house for a long period of time. Elevate your legs above your heart. And last drink plenty of water to flush the fluid out.

Elevate your legs when sitting, have a pillow under your feet when lying down. And try Manual Lymphatic Drainage - that has to be done by a massage therapist
