Can an ear infection cause vertigo?

I always thought vertigo was a condition by itself.

Absolutely! Vertigo is caused by conflicting info reaching your brain. An infection can change the chemical makeup of the fluid in your balance receptors, causing it to move more quickly and not stop moving when you do. This can make the world seem like it's spinning, very disconcerting, not nice.

An ear infection can cause vertigo if it is an inner ear infection. This sort of infection inflames the labyrinth, a structure that aids in balance. Vertigo can occur independent of an ear infection but is almost always caused by an underlying condition such as a tumor or hemorrhage.

An ear infection can be a direct cause of vertigo. The infection upsets your body's balance perception which located behind your tympanic membrane connected to your ear canal.

You can get dizzy from an ear infection. Sometimes, you can feel dizzy without ear pain. It probably will not go away on its own. An infection needs to be treated with antibiotics. Sometimes a person can get so dizzy that just turning their head brings this on. Even while sitting, these symptoms occur.
