Can a 9 month old be autistic?

Answer by  rfoltz33 (217)

Nine months is too early to say definitively if the child has autism. Toddler social behavior, a prominent domain of autism, should be thoroughly observed first before giving this diagnosis.

It's possible for a 9 month old to display autistic traits, but autism itself manifests largely at a much later stage in development. A slowness or disinterest in other people can simply be a sign of late development, or a lack of stimulation.

Sadly, the answer to this is yes. A child be autistic at any age, at any point in time. The younger the child, the harder it may be to diagnose such a thing, but it is certainly possible. Anybody thinking that their child may be autistic should seek immediate medical attention, as much can be done.
