It really depends on what you want in a phone. They are cheap and you aren't locked into a contract. However they are usually lower-end phones that have limited capabilities. So they are good temporary phone but you might be wanting a better one down the line.

It depends how much you talk on the phone. From a money-saving standpoint, prepaids can be helpful in keeping costs low. If paid for in cash, they cannot be ID-ed.
