Even if you go to a store like Forever 21, you can probably find something that doesn't look ridiculous. Just stick to classic styles that don't have loud colors or which aren't too low cut or short in the hem. Or pair something "cool" like a crazy dress with something "conservative," like a black suit jacket.

My mother is in this same boat right now. Beach-chic is very in for middled aged women- longer skirts and flowy shirts. Also, classic button-ups are always in style.

Find jeans that are not all the way up to your waist but are also not flairs or worse, hip huggers. I recommend checking out J Jill's fashions.
