Are long light weights best for losing weight?

I would like to start lifting weights that will help promote weight loss.

They can be if used correctly. Generally, though, if your heart rates is not increased enough, it won't help very much. Use light weights during long aerobic exercises.

Heavy weights combined with few repetitions are good for building large muscle and increasing strength. Lighter weights with more repetitions are good for toning, shaping, fat burning and overall fitness. You will lose fat but gain muscle. Your weight might not change, but you will look better in your clothes.

Muscle burns calories. You should use weights that you are comfortable lifting with; nothing too heavy, but enough to create a challenge. As your muscles repair, your burning calories!
