When putting your baby to sleep, I would avoid anything that could possibly come up over their heads. I would stay away from sleeping bags, as they can fit a bit loose around your baby's body. Sleep sacs are designed to prevent any risk of suffocation.

These are actually safe to use as long as you check your baby for signs of breathing distress when sleeping. You have to ensure that your baby's airway or passages are not blocked by the garment on the sleeping bag to avoid suffocation.

I believe that a baby sleeping bag is safe to use if it the right size for the infant that is using the sleeping bag. The sleeping bag should only come to the infants armpits, any higher than that could smothering him or her self and that could be deadly.

You should stick to sleep sacks. They are safer because your baby will not be able to snuggle down into the blanket and suffocate. The sleep sacks will keep your baby warm and make sure that their arms are free to help them roll over or move something away from their face.

Sleep sacks are generally easier to use on young infants as there is limited risk of suffocation or SIDS. Baby sleeping bags should be reserved for use with older children, at least 1 year old. Once a child can roll over and pull blankets and similar items from their face there is much less risk of suffocation.

They're not really a good idea. To avoid SIDS you should never give your baby soft blankets on top of them or anywhere that they could bury their face in and suffocate. Always put your baby on his back when sleeping.
