A male dog can start to be fertile as early as 6 months. While it's not suggested, a pup this young could (theoretically) sire a litter. Also, while sperm count can be limited, an older dog can still be used to sire a litter. However, many people take these older studs to the vet to check counts before breeding.

Most dogs start their sexual maturity at 6 months to 8 months. Their fertility can last throughout their lives. Though as they get older, they don't have much of an interest in sex because it might hurt them too much.

This depends upon the breed of the dog, but you can use a 8 month timeframe to have a good feel for it.
