Will insurance cover damage caused by carpenter ants?

Carpenter ants have destroyed the baseboards in my finished basement.

This depends on whether your home owner's policy covers wood damaging insects such as termites and carpenter ants. If you do not have this written into your policy as covered (or did not have a rider if your state did not mandate coverage), then you will owe the full cost of the repair.

Depending on what insurance you have and what coverage you have on your insurance, they may or may not cover damage caused by the carpenter ants. You should go over and read your insurance policy carefully before you call them.

No. Homeowners, mobilehome owners, nor condominium owners policies do not cover damage caused by insects or varmin. In layman's terms, insurers see this as a 'wear and tear' item that owners can prevent with good and proper maintenance.

Generally, a homeowners insurance policy lists a specific exclusion for this type of loss - insect damage. Check with your insurance agent for additional details.

It depends on the type of damage. If the floor falls in, they will repair the floor but will not take care of the ants. It's usually a maintenance issue.
