Will I be happy with Formica counter tops?

Outside of the low price in comparison to other styles of counter tops, there are many downsides to the Formica counter tops. They are more susceptible to getting scraps and chips. Also, you have to be sure to never place hot pots on your counter, because it can easily get burned.

Formica is very durable, but it will not last as long as marble. Formica will stain and come apart after years of use, because it is a plastc based product.

If you want Marble and get Formica you will not be happy! Try something in between like Tile. My friend does Tile installation and he can make a counter look like it is really marble and granite.

Formica, Looks good, and is 1/8th of the cost of marble. It seems your husband has the budget in mind when wanting Formica. But Formica does not last as long. Try Tile instead. You can get a great faux marble look!

I myself would probably purchase the Marble counter tops instead of the formica because I personally believe that the Marble counter tops would last longer.

That's a tough question to answer. If you can't be swayed by the practicality of Formica (marble stains very easily), then you won't be happy with it.
