Will a JD education qualify you to be a CPA?

A JD will not automatically qualify you to be a CPA. The JD prepares you for the bar examination and further practice as a lawyer. If you happen yo specialize in tax or business law in your JD program you may learn many things that prepare you for the CPA title, but you still need to take a different exam.

No. You can take the CPA exam after completing a JD, but the JD does not automatically qualify you to be a CPA. The CPA exam has five parts, each of which must be passed, and if you do not pass all five parts on the first try, you retake the parts you did not pass.

Not necessarily. A JD is a Juris Doctorate degree, meaning you have proven yourself a master of the law, not of accounting or finance.

JD is an abbreviation for Juris Doctor (Latin for 'of-jurisprudence doctor'). Juris Doctorate is incorrect.  add a comment

As long as you have a bachelor's degree with a concentration in accounting and have taken at least 150 hours of academic credit (which is typically a bachelor's degree plus another year), then you can take the CPA exam with a JD education. The JD education alone won't guarantee qualification, though.

In the United States, the JD degree is awarded upon graduation from law school. It alone does not qualify some one to become a CPA (a Certified Public Accountant).

No. A juris doctorate degree will allow you to sit for the bar exam in a particular state. One will need required accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam.

No. A Juris Doctorate allows you status as an attorney upon passing the bar exam. A Certified Public Accountant has to take a similar examine to qualify in that profession.
