It depends:
on the characteristics of the other material;
how the surfaces were prepared;
the coating alloy, thickness, & how applied;
environment & wear on the surface.
Properly prepared & applied brass coatings should last;
you can also apply an appropriate polymer sealant or wax coating to lessen wear.
