Every type of turtle, including box turtles need much more than simple indoor lighting. They reason they need time to bask in UV lighting is due to Vitamin D deficiencies. The UV lighting helps supply the Vitamin D that is needed for a healthy shell and body. Giving them outside light sources daily is the only substitute.

No. Box turtles, like many reptiles, require what is called "full-spectrum" lighting. The best thing for them is natural sunlight. If that's not an option you can also get a full-spectrum UV light that will do the trick. There are many UV lights available specifically for reptiles.

Yes it should be fine with the regular indoor lighting as well. Thus, it should be okay with minimal lighting levels.

For your box turtle, incandandescent, halogen or fouorescent light are all fine. We are trying to replicate sunlight, which is the turtles normal environment. Halogen flood kight bulbs are recommended to light the basking platform. Give the turtle room to move. Our goal is to duplicate nature to make our turtles feel at home.

Regular lighting doesn't supply the turtle with the UV rays that come from the sun. I recommend you buy the turtle a bulb especially made for tortoises or reptiles.

While it might be okay for a little while, in time it's health will slowly deteriorate. A turtle needs a healthy amount of natural sun light, and if this cannot be done then a special UV light can be purchased at most any pet store.

Yes they will be fine, however an outdoor setup with sun is recommended for the happiest, and healthiest box turtle.
