Distilled water lacks the minerals and chemicals found in tap water. It's used in your car radiator, helps prevent rust and gunk build up. It's best used in steam irons, as it won't cause disolved minerals (those funny white flakes) to be ironed into your clothes. And its good in cleaning solutions you add water, to prevent streaking.

Distilled water doesn't have sediments like tap water. It's used in things like humidifiers and automobile coolant systems. Sediments in tap water can build up and cause corrosion over time.
