Someone may want to keep their relationship discreet because they don't want their actions make other people uncomfertable or change their views of them. Also some people may want to keep their realtionships private to enjoy loving eachother and not loving what everybody eles thinks is right. It could also make things a little more fun and exciting

A person who is in the public eye might want to keep a relationship discreet because they don't want it judged by the general population.

There are a number of reasons he could want it discreet. He could have another girlfriend. He could also want to keep the relationship quiet if it's a new relationship. If he has children from a previous relationship he may want to make sure the relationship is serious before introducing you to his family.
