An EMF reader is literally an "electro magnetic field" reader. Usually, these readers test for a variety of spectrum of novelties and disturbances within an electro magnetic spectrum. An example of why a person needs an EMF reader might be because they are interested in searching for supernatural or ghost type phenomena.

An EMF reader is popularly used when trying to detect the presence of a ghost or supernatural power, as it is hypothesized that they emit electromagnetic waves.
