Darkened stool and mucusy discharge are reason enough to take him for a check up. If nothing else, I'd say bring a stool sample to the vet.

Sounds like there is a possibility of worms, even none are visible. The dog should be checked by a vet as soon as possible for treatment.

It could be that he is bleeding from his stomach or it could be from something that he ate. Mucus is a possible sign of infection so that could be it too. If it is a puppy it could be meconiumn the first stool that a puppy has but either way take him to the vet

It's cause your dog ate something that was not right for him and that his digestion system is suffering and needs to be repaired.
