Why is polyester so unpopular?

It's considered to be tacky because it is synthetic and cheap to produce, and often looks such, being a bit shiny or plastic-looking. It is also quite difficult to clean properly and can retain smells and stains even after several washes.

I think it has to with the identity of polyester with older people or the fact that it is not a pleasant fabric to wear. Personally, I don't like it because it has a tendency to smell bad.

Polyester is an undesirable fabric for a few reasons. First of all this fabric does not breath. Many outfits made of polyester will cause the person wearing it to sweat and become uncomfortable. Polyester does not breath because it is a synthetic material. Made of basically soft plastics. As a result people stopped using it.

Polyester does not breath like cotton or linen, so is hot and uncomfortable. It also makes funny noises when you move which can be embarrassing.
