Why is my suction line dripping?

This is probably but not limited to improper insulation. It can be caused by the saturation suction level of the temperature causing a change in temperature and thus condensation. Usually this is normal for the condensation to drip but excessive dripping may be a problem.

The main reason for dripping can be improper insulation. You can buy insulation tape from a hardware store and insulate the pipe. Sealing all the cracks with a tape also helps to prevent the dripping.

The saturated suction temperature of R22 during normal operation is about 50 -55 degrees F. This temperature is normally below dew-point, which is the point where water will condense out of the air. So moisture in the air is condensing on the cooler line. A properly installed unit has the suction line completely insulated.

The suction line is supposed to drip when humidity builds up in the a/c unit. It is perfectly alright. You should worry when you run a/c and it doesn't drip.
