Why is my speedometer sticking?

Answer by  Amber40 (24961)

It could either be the gauge or the cable sticking. First try lubricating the speedometer drive cable. Locate the cable and remove it from the back of the gauge. Then use some motorcycle style cable spray lube. Spray in enough to coat the whole cable. If this doesn't help thn the gauge itself may be going bad.

your speedometer is sticking because your need to grease it or it could be starting to go bad so you will need a new one

If it is a digital or electronic speedometer that you have a bad speedometer and it needs to be replaced as a unit. If you have an older vehicle the uses the dial type then the cable going from your transmission to the speedometer needs grease.

the speedometer could just be old. Over time they wear out and stick causing a faulty speedometer. The age of the car could cause that.
