I would suggest using a peel and stick carpet tile. Normal procedure would include using a primer such as latex on the subfloor prior to putting the tile down. A pressure sensitive adhesive can be used as well.

Well you can basically buy any type of stick on floor tile from any type of major home hardware center. The stick on floor tile should be durable, long lasting and it should be easy to wipe off in case of stains.

The floor tile I would suggest is the sticky carpet squares that are about eighteen inches square. You can make a checkerboard pattern for an instant checker of chess board. You can just use one color also.

A playroom floor can take a beating, so look for something that is durable and easy to clean. Home Improvement centers should carry a variety of brands and styles.

A trip to your local home improvement store would work well. Most tiles should work, I usually find that they need some extra adhesive. Apply a thin coat to a well-cleaned floor before sticking them down, and don't walk on it for a day or so after application.
