Why is my boss mean to me when I mention that I am due for a vacation?

There are two possible reasons that your boss becomes mean about your vacation. The first reason is you are so invaluable to the company that they hate to see you gone. The second is that your work ethic is so low that they don't feel you earned your vacation.

Perhaps he can't bear the thought of losing you, even if only a short while. Seriously, make sure you're following proper request procedure and aren't requesting bad dates off.

There could be two reasons for this. He could just be mean. Second, you could be a vital asset to have at work and when you leave it all goes downhill.

IT depends on his mood and how you are asking it. Are you asking in a sarcastic tone? Are you asking with plenty of time before the vacation?
