Express the situation clearly and nicely and provide him with a deadline before you will take further action using the legal system.

"Subject to the agreement in your lease dated xx/xx/xxxx your rent is due on the xx of each months. You are now xx days overdue and payment is due"

Send a registered/certified letter. State the date of the last rent payment, then state the missed days as well as the amounts that were NOT paid. State your intent to start eviction proceedings by a specified date, then follow through.
