This sounds like a circulation issue in your foot. I have also heard that toe numbness can be a sign of diabetes, so you may want to see your doctor about this. It could also be something as simple as holding your foot funny and causing it to go to sleep.

Numbness can be a result of several things. Blood loss is a very common factor in numbness, while nerve problems can also play a role. You should see a doctor.

One common reason is that your shoes are too tight, or don't fit properly. This can put pressure on the nerves and blood vessels. If they're pressed too hard for too long, you'll lose feeling in the toe.

Your big toe could be numb as a result of your shoes being too tight on your foot or a lack of blood flo to the toe.
