Why is my air conditioner not keeping up?

The two most likely causes are lack of coolant in the line. A service technician can replace the coolant and check the lines for leaks and tighten loose connections. Before paying for that, look inside the furnace box where the evaporator coils are, and vacuum/blow the coils to remove the built up dust. That will probably fix the problem.

There is probably something technical that is wrong with it. Maybe its been used over its limit. Maybe the cooling fan is having some kind of defect. So check it with a technician.

This could be caused by any number of reasons. First of all check the filters in the vents. Secondly you could have cold air escaping through a small leak spot in your home. Some caulking around the windows might help. You could check the filter in the return air vent. Or maybe your a/c is just old and needs replaced.

As it gets warmer it may seem like it runs longer.That is the time when it should be serviced.Change the filter,check the freon.It's also a good time to check the seals around the doors and windows of the house.

It could be the unit is getting older. Also, your may need to re-insulate your house. If the insulation has gaps, the heat will get in.

If you have it on a side that the sun is on most of the day it can over power smaller Air conditioner's.Also check filter If it's a year or so old it may need freon gas eon loses it's Chemical structure over time and use.
