When you stand up, blood goes running to your head. That makes your nose produce more mucus. Don't read too much into it, just carry a handkerchief with you.

When you are sitting or standing, sometimes fluid can store in your sinus cavity. When you are standing up, all that fluid rushes down and then your nose begins to run more. If you were lying down, then it would start to drip down your throat since everything is connected in some way.

There are many causes of a runny nose including allergies, illness, cold weather, and reactions to medications. If you are lying down and move to a standing position, your runny nose may become more apparent.

A runny nose reacts to gravity. When one stands up, gravity pulls the mucus down the nose. When one lies down, the mucus runs to the back of the throat and is swallowed subconsciously while sleeping. If this is chronic, you should see your doctor. An antihistamine which can be purchased over the counter will also help.
