The hard bump that has developed on the piercing site is called a keloid. A keloid is a mass of scar tissue that forms around the site of some puncture wounds. As your body tries to reject the jewelery the scar tissue forms because your body is trying to "protect" the wound.

The most likely cause of this is scar tissue that has built up. If there was any infection it would be red and painful.

The bump appeared because at some point the ear became infected but if it doesn't hurt it means that it is starting to heal already and with time the bump will eventually disappear entirely. As long as the area remains clean and does not begin hurting the bump should being to slowly become smaller until it disappears.

It most likely doesn't have to do with the piercing itself. White heads tend to develop on the top of ears, if it doesn't go away within 5 days.
