Why don't we have solar powered cars?

Because the technology required to make affordable, wide-spread use of solar power in vehicles is not available to us at this point in time. Also, I think maintaining the battery charge at night could be problematic.

The technology is still lacking. The main problem with any electric powered car is the battery supply. Since automaker started looking into hybrid recently the battery technology can't meet the power requirements. They are too heavy for the potential driving range. Plus a solar powered car would be useless in a place with little sun to power it.
