Why does the Russian orthodox cross have a 2nd bar diagonal?

There are many different theories on this. Some suggest that it was meant as a foot rest during crucifixion. Others have suggested that it represents a balance of justice, or as ideogram for ruler ship. The top bar represents the sign INRI Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Hope this helps!

The Russian Orthodox Cross has a 2nd diagonal bar on the cross which represents how Jesus Christ's arms were stretched apart and nailed to the cross. It is meant to give deeper meaning to show how Christ suffered for us.
