Your widescreen rear projection TV might have a distorted picture because the rear projector is out of focus. A potential cause for this might be that the mirror could be off center or the one of the three projector lights (red, green, blue) could be off. Try using the TV's menu settings to adjust the projector focus.

It depends on the setting of your picture and where you are viewing the tV in relation to the room size on why the picture is distorted. They are meant for large rooms.

Sounds like you have a bit of dirt or some sort of grime on your projector. Take the screen off and in the back you will find some large bulbs. Clean those with windex or something to that effect. Also this could be cause from heat damage or damage to the screen itself.

If by distorted, you mean that everything seems stretched, it's because of the aspect ratio of TV programming. Most widescreen TVs are 16:9 - if the image were 16" wide, it would be 9" high. If you're watching older 'Standard definition' TV, it's aspect ratio is 4:3. Your TV can either stretch the signal to fill, or add black bars.
