Why does my mimosa tree have sap running down the trunk?

This tree produces excess sap and needs to release the pressure occasionally. They achieve this by allowing the sap to collect on the outer rungs of the bark and releasing the sap through tiny crack that occur with temperature changes.

The first possible cause is slime flux or 'wetwood'. A bacteria in the wood builds pressure causing the trunk to foam while the foliage remains healthy and green. The second is caused by a fungus and called mimosa wilt. The leaves will wilt, slime oozing from all areas of the tree due to the roots being infected. It's fatal.

This is because the tree is malnourished. You need to replace the soil. Also, it may indicate a disease in the trunk, so you might want to wipe that off using a spray.

Your mimosa tree could have some type of burrowing parasite so you should try to see where the sap is coming from. It could also be slime flux caused by bacteria or mimosa wilt caused by fungus.

Find out where the sap is running from and make sure there are no burrow marks also make sure it isn't happening because there is damage to the tree.

It could be from a number of things the first thing you should do is take a good look at where the sap is coming from and make sure it isn't being caused from something burrowing into the tree. You need to treat the cause not the symptom and the running sap is just a symptom.

It sounds like some form of burrowing parasite has gotten into it I know there are ways to treat for it but I am not sure what you need.

Alcohol flux on mimosa is a condition found on stressed mimosa and willow trees; which causes white froth, or sap that often has a pleasant fermentative odor.
