Its most likely that your TV has a piece of plastic inside its caseing that is touching a capacitor or live wire. Eventually this plastic will melt and possibly ruin several internal parts.

This smell is typical in brand new LCD televisions. This smell is fresh electronics and silicone components located within the set, it almost smells like burnt hair. If you are still experiencing this smell after several days or after a long period of time, this could be an indication of failing internals, unplug and contact manufacturer.

It may be because some dust or debris has gotten into it and you may notice the smell because as the tv gets warm, it makes the odor stronger.

When first turned on and warmed up there may be plastic components and coatings that may let off a smell. The smell should go away within a few hours.

Benzene, styrene, plastic outgassing, PVC, copper, glass, solder and the many more chemicals to many to name. TVs are probably a microcosm of so many hazardous items it would scare you to know. They all vent into the atmosphere. Leave on in garage 30 days.

It's unfortumate that any of the manufactureres don't offer up any answers on the vast number of discussions I have come across on this topic. until that happens, all the armchair technicians will give up 1000's of "proffessional" answers--- grain of salt --- my 2 cents
