Why does my hamster have a soft, swollen belly?

It might be nothing or it could be some kind of bloat or tumour (or even pregnancy if s/he was missexed). Check with an EXOTICS vet to be safe.

If your hamster has been exposed to other hamsters recently (perhaps from where you purchased it from) it is possible you may have a pregnant female.

If the hamster is going to the restroom just fine it could be as simple as him putting on some weight. If a hamster is over-eating they will show this mainly in the stomach. You may want to check with a vet just in case because Hymenolepis tapeworms in the small intestine would also cause swelling.
