Why does my dog have a foggy eye?

Foggy eyes are the sign for many eye issues such as cataract, an eye infection or ulcer. Take your dog to the vet to make sure because early treatment is the key to recovery. Specific eye drops/ointments will generally improve the condition but in serious cases surgery might be necessary.

A foggy eye can be a sign of either cataracts or an injury, if it's not bothering the dog it's probably a cataract. If the dog is in any discomfort at all it should be seen by a Vet, eye injuries are not something to take lightly, they can quickly cause a lot of damage if not cared for.

It sounds like it could be cataracts. You will want to take your dog to a vet to see what they think, and you might want to take your dog to an eye specialist after that if you want to try treatment. There are medications and surgery available to help with cataracts in dogs.

In a young dog this could be allergy or injury caused. In an older dog, a sign of cataracts or incipient blindness- in all dogs it can be a sign of blindness that's treatable and preventable. You need to see your vet, this may be a sign of a serious issue, or one that can be easily treated.

Take her to the Vet. Your dog may not have the ability to naturally make tears in that eye and may need drops for the rest of her life.

If your dog's eye is foggy, your dog may have cataracts or some other eye condition, including but not limited to blindness in the affected eye. Have your veterinarian test your dog's vision.
