You probably have a gas leak somewhere. It might be dripping on something that this leaves off an smell. I would take it ASAP and get it checked out. You don't want to be driving by a car that flicks out a cigarette. It's probably not major to fix, maybe a tightening up of something.

I am sure it is a loose or minor leak in a fuel line or faulty fuel filter. The dealer's mechanics will have trace check and will find out that if some other place had crossed some of the fuel/air flow hoses. Reconnected the flow to specs and... no more gas smell!

Well simply put this could be caused by muffler issues. There may be a hole or some other type of obstruction in your muffler. If this is such the case, then this smelly phenomena would most likely occur every time you drive. You and your car's occupants most likely smell it due to the muffler's position beneath the car.

Assuming there's no leak and YOU have never spilled gas in your car, I'd assume it may be a spill from a previous owner that has it's odor reactivated by heat. If the car is still under warranty, have it checked at the dealer, when it's hot!

I have 2 good possibles. The fuel injctors are sealed into the engine with little rubber 'O'' rings. If they are dried out they shrink and leak gasoline fumes. Or if the cars injectors were removed for some repair and the rings were not replaced with new ones you get the same result. So have the ''O'' rings replaced.
