I have a '91 Olds 88.

I would suspect some kind of fuel or ignition problem. I recommend Changing plugs, wires, fuel filter and clean fuel injectors.

from how you just said that you must need an oil change or you may need an major tune-upand that will make your car run much smoother and put some good tires
