Because they make women feel beautiful, like they are wearing very beautiful ornaments. Jewelry can help women express their feelings, their state of mind or most of the times, perfectly compliment outfits or actually transform completely an outfit. They are the perfect accesories for every occasion and time of the day.

Women like jewelry because they feel good while wearing jewelry. Some women will probably wear jewelry to show off they financial status to other people. Again a jewelry is a way to show how much you love your wife by your spending purchasing the jewelry.

Jewelry is pretty. Most people like pretty things - male or female - but the most beautiful jewelry is far more socially acceptable for a woman to wear in the "western" world. It is also expensive, and because of this, is a status symbol you've gifted her subconsciously.

Women (as a general group) have been trained since childhood to ..... oooooh Shiny! Ahem, what I was saying is that we have been trained to desire pretty shiny gorgeous pieces of jewelry. To many it represents love, affection and value. It's also much easier to show off than a 4 slice toaster.
