Distilled water has had impurities removed by boiling and then condensing. It's used in labs, brewing, and for drinking. The latter is controversial as it lacks necessary.

People use distilled water because of its "purity", ie it is free from impurities, dietary minerals and diluted gases. In households distilled water is particularly useful when pressing clothes with steam irons, because it helps those irons to last longer.

The main difference in distilled water from any other water is that it doesn't have bleach and other harsh chemicals to clean it. There's not enough chlorine in our water to harm us, but it could kill some plants and even sensitive fish and reptiles.
