It's called a pet name. It would be like calling a woman "Honey" or "Baby". It is cute and shows that they love them. I have a friend who calls her boyfriend "Mr. Amazing" this is just her way of showing that she loves him. I called my husband "Snuggles", and I do that to show that I love him.
