I've had the cough for a few days but now my chest really hurts, too.

There might be something with your lungs. If you did really bad strong hard coughing, it is also possible that you have a broken rip.

Chest pain while coughing may be caused by a cardiac event or it could simply be due to internal strain caused when one coughs - which is often violent.
