Being sleepy can be an indication of a more serious underlying condition, but you should first investigate your diet, sleeping habits and activity levels. It is far more likely to be caused by an unbalanced, fatty diet, bad sleeping habits and low activity levels.

The most common cause of chronic sleepiness is not getting enough sleep at night. A person who frequently wakes up due to one thing or the other may also be chronically sleepy. Daytime sleepiness can be a sign of sleep apnea. Alcohal use or medications taken at bedtime can interfer enough so you don't get restful sleep.

If you rule out the fact that you had a late night's rest or If you've been drinking alcohol, sleepiness might be a symptom of Highblood pressure. That still depends on the other symptoms that come along with it. If you also experience dizziness or nausea then it could be high blood pressure. Go to a doctor to make sure.

If you have examined your work and sleeping habits and that is not the cause of your sleepiness. You might have a sleep disorder. Have it check by your MD

Alot of times it could be due to be anemia - low iron in your blood. Anemia causes people to be sleepier than normal. Visit your physician and have him/her draw blood to eliminate this possibility. In the mean time, eat foods that are high in iron to help boost your iron levels or trying taking a daily vitamin.
